Pharmaceutical name:
Sildenafil Citrate
The primary ingredient in Fildena is Sildenafil Citrate, which is categorized as a phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor. This medication is typically prescribed for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (male impotence). Sildenafil Citrate influences the body's response to sexual arousal. It improves erectile function by increasing blood flow to the penis through enhanced smooth muscle relaxation, facilitated by a compound known as nitric oxide. Additionally, Sildenafil Citrate can be used to address pulmonary arterial hypertension.
The suggested dosage is 50 mg, to be taken 30-60 minutes prior to sexual activity. Depending on the side effects experienced, the dosage can be adjusted to 100 mg or reduced to 25 mg, with a maximum recommended dose of 100 mg per day. It is crucial not to take Fildena more than once within a 24-hour period and to avoid high-fat foods, grapefruits, or grapefruit juice while on this medication.
Before commencing treatment with Fildena, discuss any allergies with your doctor or healthcare provider. Individuals in middle age may be more prone to side effects from Fildena. This medication can cause dizziness or vision disturbances, so it's advisable to limit alcohol intake. Share your medical history with your doctor or pharmacist, particularly if you have conditions such as sickle cell disease, abnormal blood pressure, severe dehydration, a history of painful or prolonged erections (priapism), eye issues, heart problems, kidney disease, liver disease, pulmonary edema, or penile deformities (such as angulation, scarring, or Peyronie's disease). Sildenafil does not provide protection against sexually transmitted infections, including HIV.
Fildena should not be combined with other erectile dysfunction treatments or nitrates, as this combination can lead to a significant drop in blood pressure, potentially resulting in dizziness, fainting, heart attack, or stroke. This medication is not suitable for women, children, or anyone sensitive to its ingredients.
Common side effects can include upset stomach, headaches, flushing, heartburn, nasal congestion, dizziness, diarrhea, irregular heartbeats, shortness of breath, and prolonged (longer than 4 hours) or painful erections. Changes in vision, such as increased light sensitivity or blurred vision, may also occur. Serious allergic reactions are uncommon. This list is not exhaustive; if you experience any unlisted side effects, reach out to your doctor or pharmacist.
Fildena should not be taken with nitrates, recreational drugs containing amyl or butyl nitrite, alpha-blockers, other impotence medications, or certain high blood pressure treatments. Grapefruit juice can elevate Sildenafil levels in the bloodstream, and a high-fat meal can diminish the effectiveness of Sildenafil. Consult your healthcare provider for additional guidance.
Fildena is used on an as-needed basis, so missing a dose is unlikely. If you suspect an overdose, seek emergency medical assistance immediately. Symptoms of an overdose include chest pain, nausea, irregular heartbeat, and feelings of lightheadedness or fainting.
Store Fildena at room temperature, ideally between 68-77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C), away from light and moisture. Avoid storing medications in the bathroom. Ensure that all medications are kept out of reach of children and pets.
